With an abundance of sights to see and things to do in San Francisco, it is easy to get overwhelmed when deciding what to do when you finally score some free time in the city. This month, we are reminding you of a few museum exhibitions that are not to be missed, either currently running or opening soon. There is no better way to spend a foggy August day then exploring what the city’s beautiful museums have on display, so make sure to get out there and enjoy!
The Legion of Honor

Guo Pei: Couture Fantasy Exhibit

This breathtaking exhibit of Guo Pei, who is known as “China’s first couturier,” features a vast collection of the female designer’s work spanning over the past 20 years. A lavish blend of Chinese and European historically-inspired high fashion, the onlooker is quickly transported to a fantasy world, easily living up to the dreamy name of the exhibition. Cost: $15-30. SF MOMA

Diego Rivera’s America
A prolific collection of the artist’s work, this exhibition features more than 150 of Rivera’s bold and colorful paintings and drawings. In addition, three galleries are devoted to large scale projected images of the artist’s well-known murals in both the US and Mexico. Cost: $27-33. Find tickets here.
Contemporary Optics: Olafur Eliasson, Teresita Fernández, and Anish Kapoor
An immersive and sculptural op art collection, the shapes and colors of this exhibition create a psychedelic and playful experience for those wandering through it. Asian Art Museum
Museum Hours: Thursday, 1 – 8 PM, Friday-Monday, 10 AM – 5 PM
Seeing Gender
This small exhibition is the first of its kind at the museum. It presents an exploration of gender through the lens of Asian art, deeply relevant to the sexual diversity of the Bay Area with 16 pieces featured; ranging from sculptural to hand painted work. Cost: $14-20. Find tickets here.
DeYoung Museum

Ramses the Great and the Gold of the Pharaohs (coming soon!)
