Top San Francisco Events in September 2017

September 6th, 2017

September is one of the best months of the year to be in San Francisco. It’s typically one of the warmest months and most of the tourists have gone back home allowing locals to enjoy the beautiful weather and the many free outdoor (and indoor) events.

9/1 – 9/30 Architecture + The City Festival

One of the nation’s largest and longest running architectural and design festivals, this month-long celebration includes walking and home tours, lectures, films, exhibitions and more. This year’s theme, “Secret City,” explores the many layers of historic San Francisco and how design and architecture play a significant role.

9/9 Russian River Jazz & Blues Fest

Take a road trip to the Russian River for an eclectic lineup of classic and contemporary musicians in Guerneville. This is a beautiful part of Sonoma County known for its natural environment, redwood forests, and wine tasting spots.

9/9 – 9/10 Chocolate Festival

Indulge yourself—for a good cause—at the Ghirardelli Chocolate Festival, as 100 percent of the profits are donated to the non-profit Project Open Hand. This festival includes chocolate tasting, chef demonstrations, live music, and vendors at Ghirardelli Square.

9/17 Comedy Day

Spend your Sunday afternoon lounging in Golden Gate Park at the 37th Annual Comedy Day chuckling with over 40 comedians. This free festival is different each year, but it’s consistently left the crowd dying of laughter. Previous years have also included surprise guests like Dave Chappelle, Robin Williams and Ellen DeGeneres, so be on the lookout for a potential heavy hitter.

9/23 Film Night in the Park

Grab your blanket and some friends for a nostalgic night watching The Breakfast Club on a giant outdoor screen with downtown San Francisco as your backdrop. Film Night rotates among different city locations and this event is in Dolores Park.

9/24 Folsom Street Fair

A true, one-of-a-kind, classic San Francisco experience, the annual Folsom Street Fair covers over thirteen city blocks filled with 400,000 people in leather, rubber and other fetish attire in celebration of the largest leather fair.

9/24 SF Music Day 2017

A free, daylong music festival presenting 35 Bay Area ensembles in early music, chamber music, new music, jazz, and creative music. The festival showcases the diversity and range of the Bay Area music community, from traditional classical and chamber music to innovative new sounds in jazz and beyond.

9/30 4th Annual Yoga Fest

Get your zen on at Sport Basement’s annual free day of yoga, prizes and food. This is at their Bryant Street location, not the one in the Presidio, and it’s also benefitting the SF SPCA.

So mark your calendars and make some plans. It’s going to be a busy month.
